Assasin creed cyndicate2/18/2023 ![]() There’s a lot more I could go into but this is most of what I remember about Syndicate. I can’t recall any notable twists or turns, no high stakes, and things wrapped up in the end about the way I expected them to. The plot, too, is very simple and predictable. There’s just nothing deep about them at all. That’s really it, that’s all these characters are. Jacob and Evie are just as one-dimensional in my opinion-Jacob being the more immature funny-guy who is sometimes cunning and Evie being more responsible and calculated. I think there’s even one scene where he does the killing-your-own-soldier cliche when he’s angry. Clearly they tried to make Starrick this really intimidating villain, but he just comes off as simple and he isn’t compelling in the slightest. Honestly, I found them all very one-dimensional. The one thing I remember disliking the most about the game, though, were the characters. Also, as you said, London in the game is beautiful, so much attention to detail. This is actually something I’ve come to appreciate more from Syndicate and really all AC games as a whole, with newer games like Cyberpunk feeling pretty lifeless in terms of crowd systems. So many different animations for the NPCs to give it more life, so much activity going on at the same time-people selling goods at markets, people drinking in pubs, walking down the street, kids selling magazines, public speakers, and some combat situations in which the player could intervene. All mapped to the "B" button.ĭefinitely the best part of the game was London itself. I'd be trying to throw someone in the back of a buggy but then I'd throw them onto the ground, then get into the buggy to just get back out to pick them up and repeat until I finally threw them in. Sometimes pressing buttons to perform certain tasks was painfully difficult. ![]() Unnecessary in any game but, that could be just me. Story was fun but, nothing to write home about. Of the AC games I've played, they're always extremely uninteresting and poorly designed. Didn't they have this solved in Revelations? I don't know why games cannot figure out following people. It makes it enjoyable to watch how differently they approach scenarios. Jacob being the reckless and aggressive one and Evie being the smart and collected one. They are also polar opposites in good ways. They play well off each other and are both very unique. They are both fully realized characters with their own lines and stories. Neither do anything particularly well but, together they offer much more. Jacob and Evie Frye are some of my favorite protagonists. Especially crossing the river like a pirate. Plus, as said before it was fun going from mission to mission. And the side quests that weren't all that exciting were easy to run into and complete in under 3 minutes. They were usually silly and lighthearted. Most Assassin Creed games have just a copious amount of side missions that clutter the entirety of the map (looking at you AC: Unity) but, this game had fun side quests with colorful historical figures like Charles Dickens and Karl Marx. And for things that were a little further away the horse and carriage system was not a chore and did not feel clunky I rarely used the leap of faith because it was quicker and more fun to zip line towards your next objective. It was wonderful to grapple up the side of a building, zipline across, and assassinate my target off my zipline. ![]() With the addition of the zipline/grappling hook, I was constantly enjoying moving about the city of London (which I might add is gorgeous). Traversal around the city is my favorite in the series. Also, the executions are all so well animated and brutal that I never got bored watching them. Pull of execution in the middle of a fight to then dodge a bullet counter of punch and stab two enemies at the same time is so satisfying. It is super satisfying to successfully pull off a win against enemies higher leveled than you. The combat is a mix of hand-to-hand combat with your weapon and gun. The combat in this game is the first time in the series I felt like I wasn't a guy in the center of a circle of enemies just spamming counter. The game is far from flawless but, what it does well, it does really well. However, I also had the luxury of not playing this game at launch and not being burnt out from the annual release of the series. I'll start by saying I know this isn't a particularly popular opinion. ![]()
